Doing mockups for a potential customer: An exercise in communication

So for our 3rd project in this first semester, we were set to do a cross-program project with the Marketing Management class at CPH Business. The project entailed us, the multimediadesigners, receiving a design brief from the marketing management class asking for a webdesign mockup for their fictional company, then attending a meeting where further elaboration might occur together with the marketing management class, and then on to the fun part, creating the mockup.

Our particular partner-group from the marketing class had established a company called Time Gap Festival, a music festival in the same vain as Roskilde Festival but aimed at their target audience being old people above 65 years old. We went the extra mild though, and also worked on their branding and identity. We created a new logo and chose their company colors (red and white, with the reasoning being old people love Dannebrog, the danish flag, and those are the colors of the flag).

My reflection

I am satisfied with our final product and I’ve learned that communication is a thing that is vital for a project to go smoothly, and this has been a great exercise in helping me realize that. One thing that I would have enjoyed more would be if us, the multimediadesigners, were having the meeting with the marketing class first, and from that meeting, we would form our own design briefs based on our questions to them, since that is more true to the way it is being carried out in the industry.
